# How FormStatus tests your forms

FormStatus helps you ensure that your website’s contact forms are working properly by running both manual and automated tests. These tests are designed to catch issues before they affect your visitors, such as failed submissions or undelivered emails.

### When are forms tested?
FormStatus offers three types of testing options:

1. **Manual checks**
You can initiate a test at any time from your FormStatus dashboard. This is useful after making changes to your website or form settings and allows you to confirm that everything is working correctly.

2. **Daily automated checks**
Once a form is added to FormStatus, it will be tested automatically once per day. This provides continuous monitoring to catch potential issues early—even if no recent updates have been made.

3. **Post-update automated checks**
If FormStatus detects that a supported form plugin has been updated, it will automatically re-test any forms you’ve added. This ensures plugin changes haven’t affected form functionality.

||| Note: Forms are not added automatically. You must manually add the forms you want to monitor within the FormStatus dashboard.

### How the testing process works
Each test is designed to simulate a real user submitting your form:

1. **Simulated submission**
FormStatus simulates a real browser visit to your website and submits the form using test-friendly data, just as a user would. This ensures that both the front-end and back-end processes are working.

2. **Confirmation response**
After submission, FormStatus checks for a success message or redirect to confirm that the form was processed as expected.

3. **Email monitoring**
FormStatus monitors a dedicated, secure inbox for confirmation emails sent by your site. If no email is received, or if there's an issue with delivery, FormStatus alerts you immediately.

4. **Audit logging**
Every test—manual or automated—is logged in your audit history, so you can review when tests occurred and what the results were.
